STERLING SILVER RHODIUM Plated to prevent tarnish and look like White Gold
If a style is not available in 14K White Gold or 14k is too expensive, I offer a custom option of Rhodium Plating the Sterling Silver version. RHODIUM will prevent tarnish and achieve the same brilliant white look of 14K White Gold. Rhodium is a very hard white metal and provides the look of White Gold at an affordable price of only a few dollars more than plain Sterling Silver. Many contemporary jewelry items, especially those made of White Gold and Sterling Silver, are electroplated in Rhodium to enhance shine and durability. RHODIUM a precious metal, is a member of the PLATINUM family. Rhodium electroplating is used on jewelry, to provide a surface that will resist scratches and tarnish, and give a white, reflective appearance. Rhodium Plating is most often found on White Gold. The term White Gold is something of a misnomer. Gold is actually yellow, what we call White Gold today is an alloy (mixture) of gold and a white metal - usually nickel, silver, or palladium (another member of the platinum family). Metals known as white are actually more of a gray color, so white gold has a yellowish cast. The higher the karat weight, the more gold there is in the alloy, the more yellow the cast appears. Since the wearer of white gold is looking for a bright white look, a very thin layer of Rhodium electroplating is used to make that jewelry shine. Sterling Silver or White Gold plated with Rhodium will also keep its good looks longer - rhodium will not tarnish or discolor, and since it is a harder substance, it is much less likely to get scratched. THICKNESS OPTIONS FOR POSTS
The THICKNESS of wire is measured as GAUGE. The usual gauge of a standard post found on regular stud earrings is 20 gauge. NOTE: Regular stud earrings and MINI Hoop POST earrings for upper lobe HELIX CARTILAGE , piercings usually use 20 GAUGE THICKNESS posts. Medium 18 Gauge and even Thicker 16 Gauge options also available in the drop down menu. The wire gauge generally used for CONCH Piercings is generally a thicker 16 gauge and often an even thicker 14 gauge. Yes, the lower the number, the thicker the wire! Other gauge posts are available using the drop down menu. You may select from thin 20, gauge to increasing thicker18, 16, or 14 gauge. Remember, the lower the number, the thicker the wire. METAL OPTIONS
Most of my work is also available in Solid 14K Yellow, White, or Rose Gold or 14K Gold Filled and in Sterling Silver, and Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver that will wear and look like White Gold. Choices of metal are limited by the availability of certain fancy patterned wire or sheet. For example not much patterned wire is available in 14K but there are many pattern and textures in Sterling Silver sheet and 14K Gold Filled. 14K Yellow Gold Filled Jewelry as affordable alternative to solid 14K gold. Gold Filled will not wear off or tarnish. It is NOT plated. It is high quality 14/20 14K Gold Filled. 14K Yellow Gold Filled Jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold bonded with heat and pressure, to a base metal such as brass.
